Testing Astringle for a Boutique Website Redesign
I was working on a redesign for a small boutique website that sells handcrafted jewelry. The client wanted something elegant, unique, and reflective of their brand's artisanal roots. After exploring several font options, I landed on Astringle, a sophisticated handwritten font from Script Amp under the Fonts category. It had the right balance of refinement and delicacy that matched the brand’s visual identity.
The first thing I noticed about Astringle was how it felt like a real handwritten script—each stroke had character, and the overall look wasn’t too formal or too casual. It brought warmth and personality to the design without overwhelming the content. I used it in the hero section, where the headline “Handmade with Heart” needed to stand out but still feel inviting.
When testing the font on mobile layouts, I made sure the text remained legible at smaller sizes. Astringle worked well when scaled down, especially when paired with a clean sans serif font for body copy. This combination helped maintain readability while keeping the design visually interesting. For buttons and call-to-action areas, I opted for a simpler sans serif to ensure quick scanning and tap-friendly interactions.
One of the key considerations was how the font would perform across different background colors and image overlays. On dark backgrounds, Astringle stood out beautifully, creating contrast without needing heavy outlines or shadows. Over light images, I added a subtle drop shadow to prevent the text from blending into the background. These adjustments ensured the typography remained accessible and engaging across all devices and screen sizes.
For the product pages, I used Astringle in section headings and promotional banners. The font added a touch of elegance to product titles and descriptions, making each item feel more personal and curated. In the blog section, I limited its use to headers and decorative accents, reserving the body text for a more readable sans serif to avoid eye strain during long reads.
I also experimented with font pairing. Astringle worked exceptionally well with a modern sans serif like Montserrat for body text. The contrast between the two fonts created a strong visual hierarchy, guiding the user’s attention naturally from headlines to supporting details. For a more editorial feel, I considered pairing it with a classic serif font, but the handmade quality of Astringle made it more suitable for a creative, lifestyle-focused brand.
Another important factor was ensuring that Astringle was available as a webfont and supported responsive layouts. I checked the file formats and confirmed that it included all necessary glyphs and alternates for multilingual support. The commercial licensing made it safe to use across the site, including in downloadable assets and email templates.
As I built out the navigation and footer sections, I used Astringle sparingly. It worked best in decorative elements like logo text and taglines, where its unique style could shine without distracting from functionality. In menus and links, I stuck with a more standard typeface to keep things consistent and easy to scan.
Overall, Astringle played a big role in shaping the brand’s digital presence. It helped create a cohesive, polished look that felt both professional and personable. Whether it was used in headers, banners, or decorative accents, the font contributed to a more refined online experience that aligned with the client’s vision.
If you're looking for a display font that adds character without sacrificing usability, Astringle is worth considering. Its versatility makes it a great choice for websites that want to stand out while maintaining clarity and professionalism. Just be sure to test it thoroughly across devices and pair it wisely with complementary fonts to keep your design balanced and effective.
